Why don't I have TikTok Shop? Every reason, from TikTok's own rules
There are three different people asking this question: a shopper with no Shop tab, a creator who cannot add products, and a business that cannot open a shop. TikTok's own pages give each of them a different answer. We read them all on 4 October 2026, photographed the rules, and found one place where two of TikTok's pages disagree.

Someone in your feed tagged a product, a friend talks about what they bought on TikTok Shop, and you look at your own app and it is not there. Or you have the Shop tab, but no button to add a product to your video. Or you run a small business, you went to sign up as a seller, and the form stopped you.

These are three different questions with three different answers, and most pages written about it answer only the first, with tips like restart the app. TikTok has written the actual rules down. We read them on 4 October 2026, and almost every case comes down to one of five things: where you are, how old you are, how many followers you have, a probation period nobody mentions until you are in it, or an email address you already used for TikTok ads.
| What is missing | Most likely reason | What fixes it |
|---|---|---|
| The Shop tab, as a shopper | Your country is not a TikTok Shop market, you are under 18, or you are not in the app | Nothing, outside a market. Inside one, the app and an adult account |
| The Shop tab, in a new market | TikTok launches the shop before the tab | Waiting. In the four markets added in June 2026 the tab began rolling out in July |
| Add product links, as a creator | Under 1,000 followers, under 18, not based in the US, or identity check pending | Reach 1,000, then apply in TikTok Studio |
| Full features, as a new creator | The 30 day pilot program, under 5,000 followers | Reach 5,000 and 30 days, or pass TikTok's early unlock test |
| Seller sign up, as a business | Not resident in a market, or the email or phone is already used | A market's own seller center, and a fresh email and phone |
| Shop features you used to have | E-commerce permissions revoked, on your account or a linked one | TikTok's appeals process; the Creator Health Rating page shows what was done |
Is TikTok Shop available in your country?
This is the reason behind most of the searches, and the one the tip lists bury. TikTok Shop is a marketplace run separately in each country, with its own sellers, couriers and tax rules, and where it is not run there is no shop to show you. The market selector on TikTok's seller site listed these on 4 October 2026:
| Region | TikTok Shop markets on seller.tiktok.com |
|---|---|
| Americas | United States, Mexico, Brazil |
| Asia | Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam |
| Europe | United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Poland |
Canada and Australia are not on it, and neither is any European country outside the nine. Austria is the odd one: TikTok's Newsroom announced it for June 2026 alongside Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland, but the seller selector had no Austrian entry when we looked. We do not know whether Austrian sellers sign up through another market, so we have not listed it.
Even inside a market, the tab can arrive late. When TikTok added the four new European countries, its announcement said this about the tab specifically:
The Shop Tab will begin rolling out to users in new EU markets from July.

We can show what the outside of a market looks like, because we are in it. From Slovakia, TikTok's buyer policy for the shop answers with its 404 page, and its help page on TikTok Shop with an error. The same addresses return the full text when fetched from outside the region.

Why don't I see the Shop tab?
If you are in a market and still have no tab, check the two conditions TikTok states. The first is age. The buyer policy opens with it:
You must be 18 years and older to purchase products on TikTok. You may be required to provide certain onboarding information prior to making your first purchase on TikTok Shop.
TikTok's help page puts it the same way, adding "or adhere to the local age requirement", so the age can differ by country. The second condition is the device. The same help page says, in a note of its own:
Note: TikTok Shop is only available in the TikTok app.
So the website in a desktop browser is not where to look. Neither page photographs here, for the reason in the section above; both are quoted from their text as served outside Slovakia, and the methodology at the end says how.
If both conditions hold and the tab is still missing, then the usual advice applies: update the app, sign out and in again. It is the last thing to check, not the first.
Why can't I add products to my TikTok videos?
Because adding a product link makes you a TikTok Shop creator, and that is a status you apply for. In the US, TikTok's Creator Eligibility Policy, last updated on 25 September 2026, sets the bar for an affiliate, the creator who promotes other people's products for a commission:
Affiliate Creators must: Self-apply to be a TikTok Shop creator. Have a minimum of 1,000 followers

The follower count is only one line. The same policy lists what every shop creator must meet, and several of these explain the cases where someone with plenty of followers is still refused:

- At least 18. TikTok may ask you to confirm it within two months of registering, by in-app recognition, a credit card or an ID and selfies.
- Based in the United States, for the US program. A creator in Canada with 50,000 followers does not qualify, because there is no Canadian program.
- Not a government, politician or political party account.
- No e-commerce permissions revoked before, on this account or on any account associated with it.
- The identity check passed. After your first commission TikTok may ask for a government ID, and its guide adds a detail that explains a lot of confused posts: while verification is in progress, product links may be hidden from viewers.

If you meet all of it, the guide's own summary gives the way in: TikTok Studio, then Monetization, then TikTok Shop for Creator, then Join now.
Why is my TikTok Shop limited?
Because you are new. An affiliate with fewer than 5,000 followers who passes verification is put into what TikTok calls the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program, for at least 30 days. During it, the policy lists these limits: products only from shops with a Shop Performance Score of 95% or higher, up to three shoppable product videos a day and three shoppable LIVEs a week, and no campaigns. TikTok can also mark an account as an Extended Pilot Creator, which drops the limits to three videos and one LIVE a week, at its own discretion and without published criteria.
To graduate from the program and remove ALL pilot program limitations, creators must: Reach at least 5,000 followers; and Remain in the program for at least 30 days

There is a side door. A creator who is still under 5,000 after 30 days may, at TikTok's discretion, have some limits lifted by passing a probation quiz on the rules, holding at least 176 Creator Health Rating points, and meeting one of three targets: six shoppable videos of at least eight seconds, one LIVE of at least five minutes promoting shop products, or ten orders from shoppable content.

Can a business sell on TikTok Shop without followers?
Yes, and this is the part most small businesses miss, because the 1,000 figure is everywhere. That minimum is for affiliates promoting other people's products. A business selling its own does it through an official shop account, the TikTok account bound to its own seller account, and the policy is plain about it:
These creators do not have a minimum follower count criteria to be bound to a TikTok Shop.
There are conditions. The account must have the same name as the shop, and it must belong to the same legal entity as the seller when an organisation account is bound. It can only promote that one shop's products, not the marketplace. And a new official account may start on its own probation, which the policy calls the Early-Stage Pilot Program: up to three e-commerce videos a day for at least 30 days, ending once the account has 1,000 followers and has passed TikTok's compliance checks. Three a day is more than most small businesses post anyway.

Why can't I open a TikTok Shop as a seller?
First, you register in the market where you live. The US guide for an individual seller asks for applicants who are at least 18, hold a US passport, driver's licence, state ID or permanent resident card, and reside in the USA, with the last four digits of a Social Security Number or an ITIN, a bank account, and a W-9 for tax. Sole proprietors, corporations and partnerships have guides of their own.

Second, the form needs a phone number and email address not already used to open another shop. The guide spells out the error you get when they are, and the reason surprises people who advertise on TikTok:
If an error message appears stating "Account already exists", it means the phone number or email address you entered has already been registered for a TikTok Shop account or a TikTok for Business (Ads platform, etc.).

So if the email you reach for is the one that runs your TikTok ads account, log in with it rather than registering, or use another address.
Why did my TikTok Shop disappear?
If you had shop features and lost them, the policy names the cause it cares most about: e-commerce permissions revoked, on your account or on one associated with it. TikTok can also remove content, restrict commissions or remove features for violations, and it shows them on the Creator Health Rating page in the app. To contest one, the policy points to its Appeals section. A revocation is the one case where reaching the follower count again does not help, because the policy excludes anyone with a prior record.
The other cause is quieter. Since 11 May 2026, TikTok caps shoppable posting in the US at 30 short videos and 60 photo posts a day, for creators and merchants alike. The policy does not say what happens to a post over the cap.
What to do, in order
- Check your country against the 19 markets above. If it is not there, nothing in the app will change that, and any page promising a fix is guessing.
- As a shopper, check that the account's birthday makes you 18 or older and that you are in the TikTok app, then update it.
- As a creator in the US, check 1,000 followers, 18, US based, and the identity check. Then apply under TikTok Studio, Monetization.
- As a new creator, expect 30 days of limits under 5,000 followers, and look up the early unlock targets if you are stuck below it.
- As a business with its own products, skip the affiliate route: open a seller account in your market and bind your own TikTok account as the official shop account. No follower minimum applies.
- Seeing Account already exists? Use an email and phone that have never touched TikTok Shop or TikTok's ads platform, or log in with the old one.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't I have TikTok Shop?
Most often because TikTok Shop does not operate in your country. On 4 October 2026 TikTok's seller site listed 19 markets, including the US, UK, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, six in Southeast Asia and eight in the EU; Canada and Australia were not among them. Inside a market, you must be 18 to shop and use the TikTok app, and adding products to videos requires applying as a creator.
Why is the Shop tab not showing on TikTok?
Check three things in order: whether your country is a TikTok Shop market, whether your account's age is 18 or over, and whether you are in the TikTok app, since TikTok says the shop is only available there. In new markets TikTok has launched shopping before the tab; in the four EU countries added in June 2026 the tab rolled out from July.
How many followers do you need for TikTok Shop?
In the US, 1,000 to become an affiliate creator who promotes other sellers' products. An official shop account selling its own shop's products has no follower minimum. Creators under 5,000 followers spend at least 30 days in a pilot program with posting limits, which ends at 5,000 followers and 30 days.
Why can't I add products to my TikTok videos?
Because you are not yet an approved TikTok Shop creator. In the US that means at least 1,000 followers, being 18 or over, being based in the US, passing identity verification and having no revoked e-commerce permissions. TikTok also says product links may be hidden while identity verification is in progress.
Can I sell on TikTok Shop without followers?
Yes, as a business selling its own products. Open a seller account, then bind your TikTok account to it as the official shop account, with the same name as the shop. TikTok's policy says official shop creators have no minimum follower count. New official accounts start with a limit of three e-commerce videos a day for at least 30 days.
Is TikTok Shop available in Canada or Australia?
Not as of 4 October 2026. Neither appears in the market list on TikTok's seller site, which named the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland.
Why does TikTok Shop say account already exists?
TikTok's seller guide says the error means the phone number or email has already been registered for a TikTok Shop account or for TikTok for Business, which includes the ads platform. Log in with it, or sign up with an email and phone number that have not been used for either.
How we researched this
- Every rule in this article was read on TikTok's own pages on 4 October 2026: two pages of the US TikTok Shop Academy for creators, one for sellers, a TikTok Newsroom post, TikTok's help page on TikTok Shop, the US buyer policy and the market list on seller.tiktok.com. The Academy and Newsroom pages are photographed in place, most by our capture script and two by hand in Chrome, because the script could not centre on the passage.
- Two pages could not be photographed, and why is part of the answer. From Slovakia, where we work and where TikTok Shop does not operate, the buyer policy returned TikTok's 404 page and the help page returned Something went wrong. We fetched their text through a reader service running outside the region and quote it word for word, but we show no photograph of either. What we show instead is the 404.
- We did not open a shop, apply as a creator or look at the in app screens of an account in a TikTok Shop market. The article reports what TikTok says decides access, not what any one account sees. The creator and seller rules quoted are the US ones; TikTok runs separate rules per market, and they differ.
- TikTok edits these pages often. The creator policy we quote was last updated on 25 September 2026, nine days before we read it. If the wording you find is different, trust the page and tell us.
